systron Launches in Italy – Vetraria Bergamasca Chose proHD with Innovative Storage Automation

Vetraria Bergamasca Tecnovetro (VBT), part of the Gruppo Bonesi, has made a significant leap in its production capabilities with the introduction of the systron proHD glass processing centre with integrated waterjet. With over 50 years of experience, the Italian company is renowned for its high-quality flat glass processing, serving sectors such as luxury design, construction, and hospitality.

Company Overview and Markets

Founded in 1967 by Cav. Angelo Bonesi, Vetraria Bergamasca operates across two production sites in Almè and Zanica (near Bergamo), covering over 25,000 square meters and employing more than 110 people. With an annual turnover of around €30 million, the company processes approximately 300,000 m² of glass, specializing in areas such as high design furniture, luxury retail, hotellerie, construction and naval applications. “We take great pride in offering our clients custom-made solutions of the highest quality,” says Managing Director Ulisse Bonesi.

systron proHD: Overcoming Skepticism and Unlocking Potential

When the idea of using waterjet-cut glass for direct tempering was first introduced, Ulisse Bonesi was initially skeptical.

“I had doubts about whether glass cut with waterjet technology could be tempered directly, but I was fascinated to see that it actually works very well,” he shares.

The precision and quality of the waterjet cutting, combined with the machine’s speed, were key factors in choosing the glass processing centre of systron. Currently, the systron proHD is primarily used to produce glass partitions and balustrades. The machine has already increased the company’s daily production capacity from 70 to 140 pieces per day.

Automated Glass Storage: Key to Efficiency

The systron proHD is in use for at least 10 hours a day, and its automation system, which includes an integrated glass storage solution with 30 slots has been key in optimizing the production flow. While the machine has not yet reached full capacity, the efficiency gains are already apparent.

“We’re seeing a clear impact on efficiency. Thanks to the proHD plus automation, we’ve doubled our output, which is a remarkable improvement,” adds Bonesi.

Automation and Future Plans

As we installed the machine about 6 months ago, the machine is still in its early operational phase. The improvements are evident, particularly in workflow and output,” says Bonesi.

Vetraria Bergamasca is continuously looking toward future advancements, with plans for more automation and technology upgrades. The purchase of the systron proHD, alongside the automated glass storage system, has significantly enhanced their efficiency and production capacity. “So far, we’re very satisfied with the results and are excited to see where this technology will take us,” concludes Ulisse Bonesi.

Looking ahead, Vetraria Bergamasca remains committed to innovation and sustainability. The company’s R&D focus is currently on improving energy efficiency within the existing machine park and exploring ways to reduce energy consumption. “We are also evaluating the feasibility of expanding our production area to increase both warehouse capacity and the energy potential of our photovoltaic systems,” says Bonesi.
